KINGS PARK, N.Y. — November 4, 2005 — Connetquot senior Robert Krause won boys Class AA at the Section XI Sectional Championships in 16:24.81, the fastest time on the course this season, and Smithtown won the team title with 39 points. Bellport junior Brittany Sheffey won girls Class AA in 19:02.83, also the fastest on the course this season and the second-fastest on record, and Ward Melville won the girls team title with 52 points.
Krause beat Ward Melville senior James Joy (16:31.46) by 6.65 seconds, with Smithtown West junior Brendan Martin third in a personal-best 16:31.94. Smithtown finished well ahead of Middle Country (110) and West Islip (139).
Sheffey won by 22.01 seconds over Smithtown West senior Jessica Hampson (19:24.84), and Bay Shore senior Lauren Schmidt was third. Ward Melville edged Bay Shore (65) and Longwood (88) with junior Bridget Reilly in eighth, followed by senior Briana Shewan, sophomore Suejin Ahn and senior Jenny Wang.
Sayville swept the Class A team titles. Sayville junior Kristy Longman won the girls race in 19:36.27, the third-fastest time on the course this season, by 33.14 seconds, and sophomore Jackie Kaste was third as Sayville scored 38 points to beat Kings Park (50). Deer Park senior Joe Parks won the boys Class A race in 17:02.47 by 22.21 seconds, but Sayville won the team title with 56 points over Hauppauge (72), led by junior Matt Santoro in eighth.
Port Jefferson took the top four places in boys Class D and won the team title with 17 points. Senior Nathan Whalen won in a personal-best 18:14.45, 3.76 seconds ahead of sophomore Chris Costanzo, with sophomore Matthew Kahn third. Pierson freshman Rafiella Gurtler won girls Class D in 23:51.01, and Shelter Island won that team title with 24 points.
Westhampton Beach senior Justin Curtis won boys Class B in 17:29.83, 17.08 seconds ahead of Shoreham-Wading River senior Chris Hays. Shoreham-Wading River junior Erin Hays won girls Class B in 20:18.10, and Center Moriches junior Marissa Banducci won girls Class C in 21:31.77 by 98.56 seconds.
