BRONX, N.Y. — November 12, 2016 — Notre Dame Academy senior Sydney Rice won the girls championship race at the CHSAA Intersectional championship in 15:17.47, a personal best, and teammates Keiana Mitchell and Sierra Dinneen finished second and third as Notre Dame Academy won the team title with 26 points.
Notre Dame Academy, which also won in 2014, the previous edition on record, beat Kellenberg (65) and St. John the Baptist (94). Rice finished 15.77 seconds ahead of Mitchell, a junior who ran a personal best of 15:33.24, and Dinneen, a freshman, was third in 15:36.49. Junior Jacqueline Thompson was ninth in 16:14.53 and freshman Lindsey Field was 11th in 16:24.24 to round out the scoring.
Rice and Mitchell both moved up from 2014, when Mitchell finished third and Rice fifth in the race. Rice's time was the fastest in the girls race this season, though well short of the best on record for the race, the 14:43.70 Colleen Schmidt of Holy Trinity ran in 2010.
St. Anthony's freshman Meghan Bowden won the junior varsity race in 17:14.87, 19.72 seconds ahead of St. John the Baptist freshman Erin Healy (17:34.59), with Notre Dame Academy freshman Sofia Garcia third in 17:43.13. Notre Dame Academy also won the JV team title with 40 points, ahead of Kellenberg (50) and St. Anthony's (79), giving the school both girls titles for a second time, after 2014.
