KINGS PARK, N.Y. — October 21, 2008 — Shoreham-Wading River senior Bobby Andrews won the boys championship race at the Section XI Division Championships at Sunken Meadow in a personal best of 16:06.25, the fastest time on record for the meet, and Shoreham-Wading River won its first boys championship title on record with 57 points. Bay Shore senior Kim Moran won the girls championship race in 19:22.80, also the fastest on record for the meet, and Northport won the girls team title.
Andrews beat Ward Melville junior Quinn Raseman (16:11.75) by 5.5 seconds, with Smithtown East senior Brendan Connell third in 16:19.84. All three ran personal bests and broke the 16:22.43 Robert Krause of Connetquot ran in 2005. Andrews's time was the fastest on the course this season. Shoreham-Wading River finished ahead of Smithtown (84) and Northport (97), with seniors Kyle Wightman and James Gladysz next for the team. Raseman won the Division 1 race, Northport senior Colin Anderson won Division 2 in 16:43.23 and Miller Place senior Geoff Engel won Division 3 in 16:48.49.
Moran finished 4.1 seconds ahead of Ward Melville freshman Caroline O'Hea, with Northport eighth-grader Sarah Zieve third in 19:46.30. Northport scored 57 points to beat Bay Shore (66) and Ward Melville (83). Westhampton Beach senior Amber Selig won the girls Division 3 race in a personal best of 20:53.00, and Mount Sinai sophomore Janie Turek won Division 4 in 20:00.40 by 62.4 seconds.
In the team qualifier races, Bay Shore senior Rob Vietri won the boys race in a personal best of 17:28.10 and Bay Shore won the team title with 86 points, while Sachem East junior Caitlyn Ryan won the girls race in 20:35.66 and West Islip took the team title with 60. Northport senior Jordan Fernald won the boys individual team race in 18:21.52, and Walt Whitman won that team title with 28 points.
