KINGS PARK, N.Y. — October 26, 2010 — Northport won the girls championship race team title at the Section XI Division Championships with 87 points, its third straight title, and Connetquot won the boys championship title with 101 points, its first title on record. Sachem East senior Alex Saavedra won the boys championship race in a personal-best 16:00.30, and Harborfields junior Kelsey Margey won the girls race in a personal-best 18:21.80, both the fastest times on record for the races.
Margey won by 57.7 seconds over teammate Michelle Gaye (19:19.50) and beat the 19:03.10 Riverhead's Katie Skinner ran in 2009. Her time was the fastest on the course this season. Northport freshman Brigid Brennan was third in 19:26.90 and led Northport past Ward Melville (117) and Commack (128), with Anna Corrigan 10th and eighth-grader Victoria D'Amato 11th.
Saavedra, third in this race a year ago, finished 15 seconds ahead of teammate Joe DiRienzo (16:15.30) and broke the 16:06.25 Shoreham-Wading River's Bobby Andrews ran in 2008. Connetquot edged Smithtown (124) and Sachem East (125) for the team title, led by Zach Krause in third in a personal-best 16:37.00, with Tyler Murtha 12th and Dom Costanzo 13th.
Ward Melville took the top three places in the girls individual team race and won its second straight title in that race with 25 points. Katie Scharrenbroich won in 22:13.24, 2.38 seconds ahead of Emily Hartman, with Kelly Roberts third. Northport won its second straight boys individual team race title with 42 points behind freshman Tim McGowan in third, and Walt Whitman's Nick DeNuzzo won the race in 18:30.67.
Half Hollow Hills East senior Greg Perrier won the boys team qualifier race in a personal-best 17:38.10, and Half Hollow Hills East won the team title with 59 points, its first title on record. East Hampton's Ashley West won the girls team qualifier race in a personal-best 21:28.50, and Eastport-South Manor won its first title on record with 95 points.
