BETHPAGE, N.Y. — November 4, 2017 — Manhasset won its fourth straight boys Class A title at the Section VIII State Qualifier Championships, going one-two behind senior Aidan Caggiano, who ran 16:24.21, and senior John Cyprus. Syosset senior Reilly Siebert won girls Class A in 18:25.55 as Syosset also won its fourth straight title, and Oyster Bay won the boys and girls Class C team titles for the fourth straight year.
Caggiano beat Cyprus (16:25.10) by 0.89 seconds, and Syosset sophomore Justin DePinto was third in 16:29.86. Manhasset scored 26 points to Syosset's 61 and East Meadow's 100, with senior Ryan Watson fourth in 16:30.08.
Siebert won by 42.66 seconds over Oceanside junior Andria Scaglione (19:08.21), with Port Washington senior Lucy Hurt third in 19:08.59. Siebert's personal best was the fastest girls time on the course this season and the third-fastest on record on the course. Syosset scored 47 points to beat Manhasset (60) and Oceanside (73).
North Shore junior Jack Rosencrans won boys Class B in a personal-best 16:16.80, the fastest boys time on the course this season, 3.22 seconds ahead of Seaford sophomore Jason Linzer. North Shore won its first Class B title on record with 43 points. South Side sophomore Carly Woelfel won girls Class B in 18:52.55, 23.24 seconds ahead of Great Neck North senior Samantha Law, last year's winner, and South Side won its first Class B title on record with 47 points.
In Class C, Wheatley senior Devin Brancato won the boys race in 18:23.71 and Oyster Bay freshman Greta Flanagan won the girls race in 21:10.63. Oyster Bay scored 15 points in the boys race and 18 in the girls race, where it took the top two places with junior Maggie Mcnamara second.
