Heather S. Buletti walks best time on record; Kristy Longman and Erin Hays win distance titles

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — May 24, 2006 — Westhampton Beach senior Heather S. Buletti won the Division Three 1500-meter race walk at the Section XI Division Championships in a personal-best 6:40.33, the best mark on record on Long Island, by 28.01 seconds. Longwood junior Betty Williams won the Division One shot put with a personal-best 12.91m, also the best mark on record on Long Island.

Sayville junior Kristy Longman won the Division Two 800 in a personal-best 2:11.42 by 8.54 seconds and the 1500 in a personal-best 4:34.98 by 15.18 seconds, both the fastest on Long Island this season. Sayville sophomore Brittany Llobell won the Division Two 3000 in a personal-best 10:46.11, 8.07 seconds ahead of Longman. Shoreham-Wading River junior Erin Hays won three Division Three distance races, the 3000 in a personal-best 10:36.54, the 1500 in a personal-best 4:44.84 and the steeplechase in 7:38.47.

Bayport-Blue Point junior Liz Crowley swept the Division Three sprints, winning the 100 in a personal-best 12.32, the 200 in a personal-best 25.58 and the 400 in a personal-best 59.10. Deer Park senior Kishana Long won the Division Two 100 in a personal-best 12.36 and the 200 in a personal-best 25.21, and Middle Country sophomore Ashley George won the Division One 100 in a personal-best 12.69 and the 200 in a personal-best 25.68.

In Division One, Longwood junior Michelle Brutus won the 400 hurdles in a personal-best 63.82, the fastest on Long Island this season and the third-fastest on record, and Middle Country senior Kerry Ojeda won the 100 hurdles in a personal-best 15.28 and the pole vault at 3.04m. Bay Shore junior Callie Hogan won the 1500 in a personal-best 4:36.48, 1.66 seconds ahead of Ward Melville sophomore Suejin Ahn, who won the 3000 in 10:34.40. Bay Shore sophomore Sarah McCurdy won the 800 in 2:15.04, Brentwood senior Priscilla St.Laurent won the 400 in a personal-best 58.84, Patchogue-Medford senior Melissa Tempesta won the steeplechase in 7:26.08 and Sachem East junior Jenna Monahan won the race walk in a personal-best 7:05.04. Bay Shore senior Melissa Presti won the discus at 38.83m, Sachem North junior Rosita DeFino won the long jump at 5.32m, Bay Shore senior Daphne Beard won the triple jump at 11.16m and Northport senior Danielle Hoddinott won the high jump at 1.52m.

In Division Two, Riverhead senior Ashley Lewis won the discus at 38.12m and the shot put at 10.87m, Riverhead junior Angela Smith won the triple jump at 10.99m and Riverhead junior Shavon Saunders won the 100 hurdles in a personal-best 16.24. Islip senior Samantha Maiori won the race walk in a personal-best 7:04.34, Islip sophomore Alexandra Doersam won the long jump at 5.30m, East Hampton freshman Emily Hren won the high jump at 1.57m and Sayville junior Michelle Quirk won the pole vault at 2.74m. Bellport freshman Anna Francis won the 400 in 59.62, Sayville senior Jessica Lyons won the 400 hurdles in 69.09 and Rocky Point senior Nicole Staudt won the steeplechase in 7:45.03.

In Division Three, Shoreham-Wading River sophomore Lauren MC Grath won the 100 hurdles in 15.75 and the long jump at 5.04m, Shoreham-Wading River junior Christy Clifton won the 400 hurdles in a personal-best 66.04 and Bayport-Blue Point senior Deanna Schmidt won the 800 in 2:19.04. Smithtown East sophomore Jessica Toritto won the discus at 33.12m and the shot put at 11.42m, John Glenn junior Gabriela Baiter won the triple jump at 11.25m and Shoreham-Wading River sophomore Kortney Kavanaugh won the pole vault at 2.89m.
