James Joy, Dan Holst and Kristy Longman post fastest times on Long Island this season

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — June 3, 2006 — Ward Melville senior James Joy won the boys 3200-meter run in a personal-best 9:10.41, the fastest time on Long Island this season, finishing 5.01 seconds ahead of Connetquot senior Robert Krause (9:15.42). Smithtown West junior Dan Holst won the 800 in a personal-best 1:54.53, also the fastest on Long Island this season, and Deer Park senior Kishana Long won the girls 100 in a personal-best 12.00 and the 200 in 25.77.

West Islip junior John Badolato won the 1600 in a personal-best 4:21.74, 3.81 seconds ahead of Krause. West Islip junior Dennis Faherty won the shot put at 16.97m and the discus at a personal-best 48.69m, both the best marks on Long Island this season. Longwood junior Austin Archibald won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.10 and the high jump at 1.87m, and Bay Shore senior Rasheem Hunt won the 100 in 11.14 and the long jump at 6.45m.

Southampton senior Cory Benton won the 400 in a personal-best 49.53, and Brentwood junior Kyle Corbett won the 200 in a personal-best 23.08 by 0.02 seconds over Wyandanch sophomore Craig Slaughter. Centereach senior Brian Gilmartin won the 400-meter hurdles in 55.90 and Smithtown West junior Brendan Martin won the steeplechase in 9:50.07. Mount Sinai junior Nick David won the pole vault at a personal-best 4.57m and Ward Melville senior Kurt Johns-Harris won the triple jump at a personal-best 13.81m.

Longwood junior Michelle Brutus won the girls 100-meter hurdles in 15.58 and the 400-meter hurdles in a personal-best 63.81, the latter by 3.59 seconds. Sayville junior Kristy Longman won the 800 in a personal-best 2:11.27 by 0.25 seconds over Bay Shore sophomore Sarah McCurdy. Shoreham-Wading River junior Erin Hays won the steeplechase in a personal-best 7:08.07 and was second in the 1500, 0.24 seconds behind Ward Melville sophomore Suejin Ahn (4:43.91), and second in the 3000 behind Bay Shore junior Callie Hogan, who won in a personal-best 10:07.54.

Bellport senior Natalie Jasmin won the 400 in 58.71, 0.11 seconds ahead of Kings Park freshman Emily Frost. Westhampton Beach senior Heather S. Buletti won the race walk in a personal-best 6:26.79 by 36.15 seconds.

In the girls field events, John Glenn junior Gabriela Baiter won the triple jump at a personal-best 11.79m, Longwood junior Betty Williams won the shot put at 12.75m, Shoreham-Wading River freshman Ashley Clasen won the discus at a personal-best 36.47m and Shoreham-Wading River sophomore Kortney Kavanaugh won the pole vault at a personal-best 3.04m. Islip sophomore Alexandra Doersam won the long jump at 5.13m and Northport senior Danielle Hoddinott won the high jump at 1.54m.
