Blake Eaton sweeps the throws; Hempstead's Alie Beuavais wins the 400

June 9, 2006 — Allegany-Lime. junior Blake Eaton won the shot put championship at the boys and girls state meet with a throw of 18.47m after winning the Division 2 shot put in 19.17m and the Division 2 discus in 56.41m. Those two marks were the best on record on Long Island. Hempstead senior Alie Beuavais won the 400 meter championship in 48.28 after taking the Division 1 race in 48.75, 0.01 ahead of Clarkstown So. junior Nick Estis.

New Rochelle senior Lynne Layne won four sprint races: the Division 1 100 meters in 11.85 and 200 meters in 24.11, then the 100 meter championship in 12.03 and the 200 meter championship in 24.47. Her 24.11 was the best mark on record on Long Island.

Several distance winners also posted the best marks on record on Long Island. Shaker senior John Maloy won the 800 meter championship in 1:51.51, Fay.-Manlius senior Owen Kimple won the 1600 meters in 4:07.71 by 3.69 seconds, and teammate Tommy Gruenewald, a junior, won the 3200 meters in 9:01.75 by 10.88 seconds. On the girls side, Warwick Valley senior Aislinn Ryan won the 3000 meters in 9:38.21 and Saratoga senior Lindsay Ferguson won the 2000 meter steeplechase in 6:36.05.

West Islip senior Luke Schoen won the pole vault with a personal-best 4.72m, the best mark on record on Long Island, ahead of Gates-Chili junior Mike Dempsey and Mount Sinai junior Nick David, who both cleared 4.64m. Sayville junior Kristy Longman won the girls 800 meters twice, in a personal-best 2:09.49 in Division 1, 0.1 ahead of Bay Shore sophomore Sarah McCurdy, and in 2:10.45 in the championship race.

Eldred senior Kyle Anthony won the long jump championship at 6.95m and the triple jump championship at 14.37m after winning both jumps in Division 2. Corning senior Kenyon Hicks won the 400 meter hurdles championship in 54.06, and Warwick Valley junior Jesse Fuca won the 110 meter hurdles championship in 14.47, 0.04 ahead of South Shore junior Kemar Clarke. Transit Tech Cte High Sch senior Clemore Henry won the 200 meter championship in 21.74, Saunders senior Rashad Johnson won the 100 in 10.83 and Columbia junior Emory Parsons won the discus at 53.16m.

In the girls championship races, Hillcrest senior Makalia Griffith won the 400 meters in 55.33, Harvey School junior Chia Hudson won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.41 by 0.01 and the long jump at 5.53m, and Benjamin Cardozo sophomore Dalilah Muhammad won the 400 meter hurdles in 1:00.05, the best mark on record on Long Island. Liverpool senior Monica Ridgeway won the shot put at 13.13m and Burnt Hills senior Brittany Dexter won the high jump at 1.67m.
