Janie Turek wins four events; Mary Kate Anselmini sets two marks

PORT JEFFERSON STATION, N.Y. — May 26, 2009 — Mount Sinai sophomore Janie Turek won four Division Three events at the Girls Division Championship Meet, all with personal bests: the 2000-meter steeplechase in 6:58.45, the 3000 in 10:36.28, the 1500 in 4:48.56 and the 800 in 2:17.82. Her steeplechase time was the fastest on Long Island this season and the fastest on record for the meet, by 30.04 seconds.

Ward Melville sophomore Mary Kate Anselmini won the Division One 3000 in a personal-best 10:03.33 and the 1500 in a personal-best 4:31.63, both the fastest times on Long Island this season and the fastest on record for the meet. Commack sophomore Allison Stapleton won the Division One steeplechase in a personal-best 7:03.38, under the 7:11.74 Anselmini ran in 2008.

Sachem North senior Erin Bresnahan won the Division One race walk in a personal-best 6:58.72, the best on record for the meet, and Bay Shore senior Stephanie Barnes won the triple jump with a personal-best 11.86m, also a best on record, and the long jump at 5.38m. North Babylon junior Vanessa Stewart won the Division Two shot put at 14.19m, beating her own best on record from 2008, and the discus at 37.41m.

In Division One, Longwood senior Kayla Murphy won the 100 hurdles in a personal-best 15.08, Patchogue-Medford junior Brittany Jones won the 100 in 12.47, 0.05 seconds ahead of Sachem East junior Lisa Luchsinger, and Commack junior Colby Lubman won the 400 in 57.35. Bay Shore freshman Danielle Rowe won the 800 in a personal-best 2:16.63, 0.05 seconds ahead of senior teammate Olivia Civardi. Luchsinger ran the fastest 200 in 25.62 and Bay Shore junior Darleen Eiermann the fastest 400 hurdles in 64.79; Eiermann also won the high jump. Bay Shore senior Cherrice Brown won the discus and shot put, and Sachem North sophomore Kayla Cataldo won the pole vault.

In Division Two, North Babylon junior Natalie Gadsen won the 100 in 12.77 and ran the fastest 200, 26.09. Half Hollow Hills East senior Farath Raphael won the 100 hurdles, East Islip freshman Cari Roccaro the 400 and Comsewogue senior Erin O'Shea the 800. Kings Park sophomore Christine Hagan won the 1500, Riverhead junior Katie Skinner the 3000 and Riverhead freshman Juliana Marcucci the steeplechase. Smithtown East senior Ashley Beck won the high jump at 1.60m.

In Division Three, Mount Sinai junior Janet Mellor won the 100 in 12.70 and the 400 in 57.97, and Mount Sinai senior Christi Nassauer won the pole vault with a personal-best 3.12m. Shoreham-Wading River senior Ashley Clasen won the discus and shot put, and East Hampton senior Emily Hren won the high jump.
