Miles Lewis repeats in sprints; David Friedman jumps 7.07m

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — May 27, 2009 — Middle Country senior Miles Lewis won the Division One 100 and 200 meters at the Boys Division Championship Meet for the second straight year, running 10.91 in the 100 and a personal-best 21.99 in the 200, the fastest 200 time on record for the meet. Half Hollow Hills West junior David Friedman won the Division Two long jump at a personal-best 7.07m, the best mark on record on Long Island.

Lewis beat Sachem North senior Anthony Quezada in both finals, by 0.09 in the 100 and 0.46 in the 200. Sachem North senior Frank Fezza won the Division One 1600 meters in a personal-best 4:16.92, 0.01 ahead of Ward Melville junior Quinn Raseman and the fastest time on record for the race. Raseman ran the fastest Division One 3200 time in a personal-best 9:23.61.

Longwood senior Isaac Marshall won the Division One 400 meter hurdles in a personal-best 55.54, 0.18 ahead of West Islip senior Jeff Gregory, and Longwood junior Dimitrius Leonard won the 110 meter hurdles in a personal-best 15.29, 0.04 ahead of defending champion David Kastner of West Islip. Longwood senior Walter Miles won the long jump at a personal-best 6.90m, Sachem North sophomore Davon Christopher won the 400 meters in 49.81 by 0.07, and William Floyd senior Tom Lindley repeated in the shot put at a personal-best 16.30m.

In Division Two, Bellport junior Jaquan Holland won the 200 meters in 22.19, also faster than the previous best on record, and won the 400 meters in 49.12. Smithtown West senior Chris Ammann won the triple jump at a personal-best 14.03m and the high jump at 1.93m, and Half Hollow Hills West junior Isaiah Glover edged him in the 110 meter hurdles, 15.24 to 15.27. Riverhead junior Mike Smith won the shot put at a personal-best 16.64m, the best mark on Long Island this season. Half Hollow Hills West senior Domenick DeMatteo won the 1600 meters in 4:27.98 and Smithtown West senior Jason Santos won the steeplechase in a personal-best 9:43.15.

In Division Three, Amityville senior Hugh Bernard won the 100 meters in 11.40, the 200 in 22.83 and the 400 in a personal-best 49.50. Amityville sophomore Sancho Barrett won the 110 meter hurdles in 14.80 and senior Rashim Gaines won the 400 meter hurdles in 55.09, the fastest time on Long Island this season, both the fastest times on record for those races. Shoreham-Wading River senior Bobby Andrews won the 1600 meters in 4:17.22, a time better than any on record for the race, and won the 3200 meters in 9:30.38.
