Mount Vernon freshmen Deajah Stevens and Michael Blake win 200s; Mary Cain wins 3000

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — May 15, 2010 — Mount Vernon freshman Deajah Stevens won the girls 200-meter final at the Westchester County Championships in 24.81, 1.6 seconds ahead of senior Katelyn Racanelli, and Mount Vernon freshman Michael Blake won the boys 200 final in 22.09. Bronxville eighth-grader Mary Cain won the girls 3000 in 10:16.08, and Mount Vernon senior Rawle Crawford won the boys 100 final in 11.23 and the 400 in 48.94.

Blake beat Crawford (22.24) by 0.15 seconds in the 200, and Crawford edged Blake (11.25) by 0.02 seconds in the 100. Crawford won the 400 by 0.95 seconds over Woodlands senior Kevin Sainvil. Cain finished 7.9 seconds ahead of senior Libby Lazare. Mount Vernon senior Kaydon Davis won the boys discus at 48.71m and the shot put at 17.06m, and Mount Vernon sophomore Tanaya Yarde won the girls 100 final in 12.69.

Fox Lane won both middle-distance races. Senior Jamie Mitchell won the 800 in 1:55.17 by 3.74 seconds and senior Christopher Sacks won the 1600 in 4:20.84, 5.54 seconds ahead of teammate Cord Sgaglio. Yorktown senior Manu Kumar won the 3200 in 9:34.57, and White Plains junior Peter Gelston won the steeplechase in 9:51.90.

New Rochelle senior Joseph Shinn won the 110 hurdles final in 15.19, 0.06 seconds ahead of senior Arthur Whyte, who won the triple jump at 13.24m. Sophomore Christian Soto won the 400 hurdles in 59.44, Archbishop Stepinac senior Brandon Mcgeever won the hammer throw at 51.46m, Hendrick Hudson senior Cal Reuter won the javelin at 51.48m, Iona Prep sophomore Greg Gallagher won the pole vault at 4.11m, Peekskill senior Daquan Brickhouse won the high jump at 1.87m and junior Tre Bracey won the long jump at 6.50m.

Woodlands senior Diana Sainvil won the girls 100 hurdles final in 15.12 by 0.99 seconds. Mamaroneck junior Gina Talt won the 1500 in 4:43.57 by 10.07 seconds, Mamaroneck sophomore Anima Banks won the 800 in 2:15.32 and Bronxville freshman Meredith Rizzo won the steeplechase in 7:10.10. Senior Katelyn Racanelli won the 400 in 56.05, Harrison sophomore Nina Sarmiento won the 400 hurdles in 65.10 and Somers junior Crosby Tillman won the race walk in 7:41.69.

In the girls field events, Mount Vernon's Lexus Harney (5.17m) and Michelle McCrae (11.07m) won the long and triple jumps, Lakeland/Panas junior Carissa Leonardi won the pole vault at 3.50m and New Rochelle won three events with Natasha Amazan in the discus (34.16m), Regina Raglan in the hammer (35.99m) and Amira Yeiser in the high jump (1.57m). Fox Lane junior Janice Johnson won the shot put at 11.30m. Junior Tiffany Henry won the javelin at 27.76m.
