Mount Vernon freshmen Deajah Stevens and Michael Blake win sprint doubles

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. — May 27, 2010 — Mount Vernon freshman Deajah Stevens won the girls Division 1 200 meters at the Section One State Qualifier Championships in a personal-best 24.29 and the 400 meters in a personal-best 56.18. Mount Vernon freshman Michael Blake won the boys Division 1 100 meters in a personal-best 11.20 and the 200 meters in 22.14.

Stevens won the 200 by 0.68 over Beacon junior Victoria Alexander (24.97) and the 400 by 0.82. Alexander was also second in the 100 meters, finishing 0.01 behind Mount Vernon sophomore Tanaya Yarde, who won in a personal-best 12.42. Mount Vernon senior Kaydon Davis won the boys discus at a personal-best 52.62m and the shot put at 16.90m.

Arlington won four boys Division 1 events. Sophomore Eddie Merenda won the 3200 meters in 9:26.46, 0.03 ahead of Yorktown senior Manu Kumar, senior Nate Pickett won the 110 meter hurdles in 14.94, 0.01 ahead of New Rochelle senior Joseph Shinn, senior Justin Decker won the 800 meters in 1:54.28, 0.23 ahead of Fox Lane senior Jamie Mitchell, and junior Jordan Yamoah won the pole vault at 4.26m. Arlington junior Hayley McMahon won the girls 1500 meters in 4:34.64 and senior Rachel Sorna won the 2000 meter steeplechase in 6:56.19.

Fox Lane senior Christopher Sacks won the 1600 meters in a personal-best 4:16.63, 2.77 seconds ahead of Kumar, and North Rockland junior James Naglieri won the steeplechase in 9:42.87. Roosevelt senior Jonathan Jackson won the 400 meters in a personal-best 49.74, New Rochelle senior Andres Montalvo won the 400 meter hurdles in 56.88, Beacon senior James Hall won the hammer at 58.64m and Hendrick Hudson senior Cal Reuter won the javelin at a personal-best 52.32m.

In the girls Division 1 meet, Mamaroneck sophomore Anima Banks won the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:10.65, Brewster freshman Ariana Bottalico won the 3000 meters in 10:28.47 and Nyack sophomore Lauren Voss won the 100 meter hurdles in 15.09. New Rochelle senior Natasha Amazan won the discus at a personal-best 36.88m and the hammer at a personal-best 40.23m, and John Jay EF junior Daniella Bernasconi won the 400 meter hurdles in 62.38 by 3.58 seconds.

In Division 2, Nanuet freshman Megan Young won the girls 3000 meters in 9:54.93, 9.82 seconds ahead of Pawling junior Sami Jorgensen, who won the steeplechase in 7:00.31. Woodlands senior Diana Sainvil won the 100 meters and 100 meter hurdles, and Woodlands senior Kevin Sainvil won the boys 200 meters in a personal-best 22.50 and the 400 meters in a personal-best 49.26. Alexander Hamilt junior Tre Bracey won the boys 100 meters in a personal-best 11.22 and the long jump at a personal-best 7.04m, and Irvington senior Julian Saliani won the 3200 meters in 9:31.23.
