Blake, Bracey, Banks repeat with best marks on record

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. — June 2, 2011 — Mount Vernon junior Michael Blake won the Division 1 200 meters at the Section One State Qualifier Championships in 21.58, a personal best and the fastest time on record for the meet, repeating as champion. Alexander Hamilt senior Tre Bracey repeated in two Division 2 events, winning the 100 in 10.96 and the long jump at 7.34m, both best marks on record for the meet.

Blake beat New Rochelle senior Courtland Cargill (21.74) by 0.16 seconds. Spring Valley junior Winslow Dorsainvil won the Division 1 100 in 10.65, a personal best and the fastest time on record for the meet, 0.11 seconds ahead of Cargill, with Blake third. Bracey won his 100 by 0.56 seconds and improved on the 7.04m he jumped to win the long jump a year ago.

Three girls also repeated with the best marks on record. Mamaroneck junior Anima Banks won the Division 1 800 in 2:10.23, beating the 2:10.65 she ran last year, by 2.39 seconds over Arlington senior Hayley McMahon. Fox Lane senior Janice Johnson won the Division 1 shot put at 12.66m, and Lakeland/Panas senior Carissa Leonardi won the Division 1 pole vault at 3.50m.

In Division 1, best marks on record for the meet also came from New Rochelle senior Malcolm Moseley in the 110-meter hurdles (14.59), Byram Hills junior Marc Violone in the 3200 (9:23.79), New Rochelle senior Jeremy Burke in the 400-meter hurdles (55.53, by 0.05 seconds) and Beacon senior Alex Bowen in the triple jump (14.07m). Bowen also won the high jump at 1.98m. On the girls side, Ursuline senior Aeisha McDavid won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.40 by 0.02 seconds, Beacon senior Victoria Alexander won the 100 in 12.11, Suffern sophomore Ursula Svoboda won the 2000-meter steeplechase in 6:53.59 and Suffern junior Sara Bowens won the triple jump at 11.62m and the long jump at 5.41m.

In Division 2, Dobbs Ferry junior Brendan Wortner won the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:41.96, the fastest time on record for the meet, and Irvington freshman Helene Hall won the high jump at 1.60m, the best mark on record for the meet. Pawling senior Sami Jorgensen won the 3000 in 9:59.21 and the 2000-meter steeplechase in 6:56.77, and Bronxville freshman Mary Cain won the 1500 in 4:37.04 by 26.33 seconds.

Somers sophomore Licursi Kristi won the 1500-meter race walk in 7:30.53, the fastest time on record for the meet. Mount Vernon junior Tanaya Yarde won the Division 1 200 in 24.54, Mamaroneck senior Gina Talt won the Division 1 3000 in 10:14.89 and Brewster junior Charlie Carr won the Division 1 1600 in 4:19.16. In the pentathlon, Nanuet senior Andrew Klock and New Rochelle senior Amira Yeiser each won three events.
