Kadesh Roberts sets 400 hurdles best on record; Kris Moran wins distance double

PORT JEFFERSON STATION, N.Y. — May 21, 2012 — Bay Shore senior Kadesh Roberts won the Division One 400-meter hurdles at the Boys Division Championship Meet in 54.00, the fastest time on record for the meet and the fastest on Long Island this season, and also won the 110 hurdles in 14.82. North Babylon junior Kris Moran won the Division Two 3200 in a personal-best 9:14.25 and the 1600 in a personal-best 4:17.50, both the fastest on Long Island this season.

Roberts won the 400 hurdles by 1.31 seconds over West Islip senior Colin O'Connor and the 110 hurdles by 0.69 seconds over Longwood junior Walter Penate. Moran beat Hauppauge senior Ryan Colabella by 8.25 seconds in the 3200 and Bellport senior Derek Palafox by 3.44 seconds in the 1600.

Longwood senior Mark Jackson won the Division One 100 in 11.17, the 200 in a personal-best 22.38, 0.08 seconds ahead of William Floyd junior Diamonte Corley, and the high jump with a personal-best 1.98m. Walt Whitman junior Michael Damato won the Division One 3200 in a personal-best 9:21.02, the third-fastest on Long Island this season. Northport junior James Dickinson won the 1600 in a personal-best 4:19.53, 0.24 seconds ahead of teammate Chris Odin, and Longwood junior Mike Engesser beat Odin by 0.16 seconds in the 800 in a personal-best 1:56.56. Ward Melville senior Vincenzo Battaglia won the 400 in a personal-best 49.79 and Ward Melville junior Alex Fitzgerald won the steeplechase in a personal-best 9:51.90.

In the Division One field events, Longwood sophomore Dashawn Taylor won the long jump at 6.83m, Longwood senior Jamal Salby won the triple jump at 14.02m, Connetquot senior Conner Olsen won the pole vault at 4.26m, Bay Shore senior Angel Alers-Rosario won the discus at 52.60m and Bay Shore senior Stanley Constant won the shot put at 15.97m.

In Division Two, Huntington senior Tyriek Johnson won the 110 hurdles in 14.82, the second-fastest on Long Island this season, and the long jump at 6.88m. Smithtown East senior Rob Calamia won the steeplechase in 9:46.06 for his third title on record. East Islip senior Jerel Williams won the 400 in a personal-best 49.87, Bellport senior Travis Correa won the 800 in 1:57.19, Riverhead junior Jeffrey Pittman edged Half Hollow Hills West sophomore Jarried Redwood by 0.02 seconds in the 200 and Redwood won the 100 in 11.42. Copiague senior Michael Benson won the 400 hurdles in 57.69, and the field events went to Smithtown West's Matthew Morganelli (17.08m) and Michael McCann (1.95m), Huntington's Trayvon Toney (46.91m), Riverhead's Dan Normoyle (4.11m) and Eastport-South Manor's Adam Malone (13.91m).

In Division Three, Sayville junior Christopher Belcher won the 100 in 11.07 and the 200 in 22.41. Miller Place senior Adam DeVito won the long jump (6.85m) and high jump (1.93m), and Port Jefferson freshman James Burke won the 1600 in 4:26.90. Other winners were Port Jefferson's Benjamin Neiman (15.46) and Andrew Keresztes (1:57.41), Amityville's Vincent Jackson (50.17), John Glenn's Joseph Fodera (55.71), Shoreham-Wading River's John Lee (9:37.02) and Keith Steinbrecher (10:18.71), Miller Place's Joe Miceli (4.26m), Hampton Bays' Andrew Morris (46.17m), Sayville's John Haggert (14.85m) and Center Moriches' Tylin Adams (13.38m).
