Eric Holt runs 4:10.49; Rai Benjamin wins 400 hurdles

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. — May 30, 2013 — Carmel senior Eric Holt won the Division 1 1600 meters at the Section One State Qualifier Championships in a personal-best 4:10.49, the fastest time on record for the race, and also won the Division 1 3200 in 9:39.95. Mount Vernon sophomore Rai Benjamin won the Division 1 400-meter hurdles in a personal-best 53.95, also the fastest time on record for the event.

Holt won the 1600 by 13.54 seconds over teammate Benito Muniz, a sophomore, and edged Arlington senior Sibby Hanson by 0.16 seconds in the 3200. Muniz won the Division 1 800 in 1:53.16, the fastest time on record for that race. Benjamin beat Scarsdale senior Patrick Clarke by 2.55 seconds; Clarke won the Division 1 110-meter hurdles in a personal-best 14.69.

Pearl River junior Brian Cook won the Division 1 steeplechase in 9:18.01, 30.53 seconds ahead of North Rockland junior Liam Purdy and the fastest time on record for the race. Arlington junior Trenten Beram won the Division 1 400 in 48.66, and White Plains senior Thomas Johnson won the triple jump with a personal-best 14.70m, both bests on record for their events. White Plains senior Tyler Ford won the 100 in 10.97, and Eastchester senior Jon Alkins won the 200 in a personal-best 21.88.

In the other Division 1 field events, North Rockland sophomore Eric Favors won the shot put (14.60m) and the discus (43.86m), Lakeland/Panas senior Lylle Ryals won the high jump at 1.93m, Lakeland/Panas senior Chris Spell won the long jump at 6.74m and Clarkstown South senior Chris Guglielmo won the pole vault at 4.14m.

In the other division, Sayville senior Christopher Belcher swept the sprints, winning the 100 in 10.75 and the 200 in 21.86 ahead of William Floyd senior Isaiah Lawson. Port Jefferson sophomore James Burke won the 800 in 1:53.73 and the 1600 in 4:13.72, both personal bests. Shoreham-Wading River junior Ryan Udvadia won the 3200 in a personal-best 9:17.27, the fastest time on record for the event, and Connetquot senior John Stallworth won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.33 and the 400-meter hurdles in 54.74.

Amityville senior Vincent Jackson won the 400 in a personal-best 48.76, and Bellport junior Chris Swenson won the steeplechase in a personal-best 9:46.38. Riverhead senior Dan Normoyle won the pole vault at 4.57m and Longwood junior Dennis Russel won the shot put at 17.69m, both personal bests and the best marks on record for their events. Amityville senior Artneil Reid won the triple jump at 14.18m, Smithtown West senior Michael McCann won the high jump at 1.98m, Brentwood sophomore Malik Sainnoval won the long jump at 6.79m and Smithtown West junior Benjamin Bonhurst won the discus at 52.60m.
