Josh Linster and Luke Germanakos run Long Island's fastest times this season

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. — February 11, 2014 — Long Beach junior Josh Linster won the boys 55-meter dash at the Section VIII State Qualifier Meet in a personal-best 6.53, the fastest time on Long Island this season, and Lynbrook junior Luke Germanakos won the 600 in a personal-best 1:22.16, also the fastest on Long Island this season. Uniondale senior Aleisha Jeffers won the girls 55 in 7.43.

Linster held off East Meadow sophomore Tim Gibson (6.56) by 0.03 seconds, with Wantagh senior Patrick Quigley third in 6.59. Germanakos won by 1.72 seconds over Valley Stream Central senior Matthew Jones. Sewanhaka senior Elijah Smith won the 300 in a personal-best 36.66, and Syosset senior Simon Nwana won the 1000 in a personal-best 2:35.99, 0.13 seconds ahead of Roslyn junior Scott Pourshalchi. East Meadow junior Michael Grady won the 1600 in 4:25.24 by 7.95 seconds, and Syosset senior Dale Mittleman won the 3200 in a personal-best 9:41.28, 0.7 seconds ahead of Garden City junior Tim Josephs. Farmingdale junior Micheal Outing won the 55 hurdles in a personal-best 7.80, the third-fastest time on Long Island this season.

In the boys field events, Valley Stream Central senior Justin Riley won the high jump at 6-02.00, Farmingdale senior Richard Zapata won the pole vault at 12-00.00, Jericho sophomore Matthew Su won the long jump with a personal-best 21-02.25, Baldwin senior Pascal Bastien won the triple jump at 45-02.00 and Syosset junior Eric Sheng won the shot put at 48-10.25.

Jeffers beat Valley Stream Central junior Keisha Haskins by 0.09 seconds. Port Washington junior Jenny Aguiar, third in the 55, won the 300 in a personal-best 41.99. Garden City junior Emma Gallagher won the 600 in 1:36.48, the fastest time on Long Island this season. The 1000 and 1500 were decided by hundredths: Port Washington senior Joelle Feinberg won the 1000 in 3:03.42, 0.06 seconds ahead of Wantagh freshman Megan Gordon, and Cold Spring junior Isabelle Harouche won the 1500 in 4:56.57, 0.05 seconds ahead of Garden City junior Jennifer Gerland. Garden City sophomore Stephanie Gerland won the 3000 in 10:20.35, the third-fastest time on Long Island this season.

Uniondale junior Crystal Green won the 55 hurdles in 8.54, 0.34 seconds clear of East Meadow senior Hillary Augustin, and MacArthur senior Jen Race won the 1500-meter race walk in a personal-best 7:42.21.

Valley Stream North junior Elaina Hobbs and Port Washington junior Neve Devine tied for first in the high jump at 5-02.00. Mepham senior Emily Hagarty won the pole vault with a personal-best 10-00.00, Valley Stream North senior Anointing Onuoha won the long jump at 17-03.00, Island Trees junior Alyssa Mustafa won the triple jump with a personal-best 35-09.50, and Manhasset senior Tara Belinsky won the shot put at 43-04.00. The meet was held indoors.
