BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — February 11, 2025 — Port Jefferson's Alexa Jacobs ran the fastest times in the girls 55-meter dash (7.10) and the 300 (40.99) on the first day of the Section XI State Qualifier Meet. William Floyd's Zariel Macchia won the girls 3,000 in 9:53.39, the fastest time on Long Island this season, and Mt. Sinai's Tyler Zahra won the boys shot put with a personal-best 60-09.75, the best mark on Long Island this season.
Macchia beat Mt. Sinai's Cali Gabrielson (10:00.35) by 6.96 seconds, with Comsewogue's Lexie Cole third in a personal-best 10:02.42. Zahra won by more than 10 feet over Commack's Anthony Pisciotta (50-04.00). Lindenhurst's Jake Albert won the boys 3,200 in 9:31.38, 7.67 seconds ahead of Ward Melville's Anthony Anatol (9:39.05).
In the sprint sections, North Babylon's Jordan Peck ran the fastest boys 55 hurdles time (7.51), Ward Melville's Joglanio Alcindor the fastest 55 (6.52) and Islip's Kaiden White the fastest 300 (35.15). Smithtown East's Rayshelle Brown ran the fastest girls 55 hurdles time, 8.27.
Personal bests led the middle distances. Shoreham-Wading River's Michael Huebner ran 1:21.61 in the 600, West Islip's Gavin DeVito 2:36.76 in the 1,000, Sachem East's Sarafina Scavo 1:36.26 in the girls 600, Bayport-Blue Point's Sophia McInnes 2:48.59 in the girls 1,000 and Bay Shore's Maggie McCormick 4:34.74 in the girls 1,500, each the fastest time in the event. Ward Melville's Jon Seyfert ran the fastest boys 1,600, 4:30.13. Sachem East's Gianna Mauri won the girls 1,500 race walk in 7:04.90, 9.73 seconds ahead of teammate Julianna Wottawa.
In the field, Longwood's Garfield Geddes won the boys long jump at 23-00.00 and Sachem East's Bella Galeas won the girls long jump at a personal-best 18-05.50, the best on Long Island this season. Miller Place's Jillian Scully won the girls shot put at a personal-best 48-04.25. West Babylon's Khadin Muhammad won the boys triple jump at 46-01.00 and Commack's Kathryn Vidulich the girls triple jump at a personal-best 37-00.50. Shoreham-Wading River's Logan Jung won the boys high jump at 06-04.00 and Riverhead's Kayleanne Campbell won the girls high jump at a personal-best 05-06.00.
