Benjamin Bonhurst throws 19.50m; Y'Majesty Allen, Tim McGowan set marks

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — May 21, 2014 — Smithtown West senior Benjamin Bonhurst won the Division Two shot put at the Boys Division Championship Meet at 19.50m, the best mark on record for the meet, and also won the Division Two discus at 52.34m. Longwood senior Dennis Russell won the Division One shot put at 18.19m, also beyond the 17.94m Bonhurst threw in 2013. Longwood senior Corey Murphy, second at 17.95m, won the Division One discus at 51.66m.

Huntington senior Y'Majesty Allen won the Division Two 400 in a personal-best 48.74, the fastest time on Long Island this season and the fastest on record for the meet, 0.15 seconds ahead of Half Hollow Hills West junior Kory Fitzgerald. Allen also won the Division Two 200 in a personal-best 22.18, the third-fastest time on Long Island this season.

Northport senior Tim McGowan won the Division One 800 in a personal-best 1:54.46, the fastest on record for the meet, 0.37 seconds ahead of Ward Melville junior Charlie Theiss. Northport junior Mike Brannigan won the Division One 3200 in a personal-best 9:12.28, the fastest time on Long Island this season, and the 1600 in 4:18.95, with McGowan second in both.

In Division One, Patchogue-Medford junior Dominick Cassella won the 100 in 11.21, 0.01 seconds ahead of Commack senior Avery Walas, and Sachem East senior Trevor Guerrera won the 400 hurdles in a personal-best 54.28, the second-fastest time on Long Island this season, by the same margin over Brentwood senior Tobias Nelson. Walas won the 200 in a personal-best 22.58. Longwood sophomore Spencer Payton won the 110 hurdles, Longwood junior Kyle Watkins won the 400 and Patchogue-Medford junior Brian Michels the steeplechase. Longwood senior Dayshaun Taylor won the long jump at 7.15m, Central Islip senior Micah Assibey-Bonsu the triple jump, Longwood senior Darrell Jones the high jump and Half Hollow Hills East junior John Natalone the pole vault. Northport senior Joe Wing won four of the five Division One pentathlon events.

In Division Two, Half Hollow Hills West senior Jarried Redwood won the 100 in 11.01, Copiague junior Aaron McFadden the 110 hurdles in 14.87, Huntington sophomore Infinite Tucker the 400 hurdles and Huntington junior Scott Gulizio the 800. Eastport-South Manor senior Tom Meehan won the 1600 in a personal-best 4:18.71, West Islip senior Craig Nelson the 3200 and Huntington senior Nick Sherman the steeplechase.

Shoreham-Wading River senior Ryan Udvadia won the Division Three 800, 1600 and 3200, and Stony Brook sophomore Charles Tankeh won the 100 and 200. Amityville junior Travon Duncan won both hurdles races, and Miller Place senior Jeremy Miekley won the steeplechase in a personal-best 9:37.80, the third-fastest time on Long Island this season. Port Jefferson senior Cihad Akkaya won the long and triple jumps.
