Michael Grady and Josh Linster repeat as marks on record fall

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — June 4, 2015 — East Meadow senior Michael Grady won the Division 1 boys 1600-meter run in 4:15.39 at the Section VIII State Qualifier Meet, repeating as champion and lowering the 4:22.10 he ran to win the race in 2014. The personal best was the fastest time on record for the meet and the fastest time on Long Island this season. Long Beach senior Josh Linster won the Division 1 100 for the second straight year in 10.97 and added the triple jump at 14.41m, both best marks on record for the meet.

Grady beat South Side's Kieran McCarthy (4:18.50) by 3.11 seconds. Linster edged Frank Carey's Gregory Matzelle (11.10) by 0.13 seconds. Farmingdale's Michael Outing won the Division 1 110-meter hurdles in 14.45, Roosevelt sophomore Corey Bull won the 200 in a personal-best 22.29, and Uniondale's Krystofer Ringgold won the 400-meter hurdles in 56.40, all the fastest times on record for their races. Manhasset's Tommy Fruhauf won the steeplechase in 9:41.88, North Shore's Michael Caldwell won the pole vault at 4.11m, and Farmingdale's Jude Pierre won the long jump at 7.12m, also best marks on record.

Roosevelt junior Shaday Lawerence won the Division 1 girls 100 in 12.44 and the 200 in 25.16, both personal bests and best marks on record for the meet. Her 200 was the fastest time on Long Island this season. North Shore eighth-grader Cailey Welch won the Division 1 800 in 2:18.99, Friends Acad's Paige Duca won the Division 2 800 in 2:16.44, and Syosset freshman Reilly Siebert won the Division 1 1500 in 4:45.97, all faster than the previous best on record. Garden City's Laurel Fisher won the steeplechase in 7:07.70 by 0.78 seconds over North Shore's Stacie Nadel, and Westbury's Denisha West won the triple jump at 11.39m.

Port Washington's Neve Devine won the Division 1 girls high jump at 1.62m for the second straight year, Cold Spring's Daniela LoCastro repeated in the Division 2 3000 in 10:39.11, and Locust Valley's Callie Catacosinos repeated in the Division 2 high jump at 1.57m. Uniondale's Crystal Green won the Division 1 400-meter hurdles in 62.83, Manhasset's Kiyah Owens won the 400 in 57.56, and Westbury's Zaria Scarlett won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.94. Island Trees' Alyssa Mustafa won the Division 2 triple jump at 11.37m and the long jump at 5.38m.

In other Division 1 races, Bethpage's Deniz Soybas won the 400 in 50.06, Valley Stream South's Michael Gordon won the 3200 in 9:37.90 and Massapequa's John Putnam won the shot put and discus. In Division 2, Oyster Bay's Alexander Tosi won the 3200 and 1600, Mineola's Andrew Ariza won the 110-meter hurdles again, and Friends Acad's Cyrus Holder won the 100 in 11.18.
