SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. — May 11, 2019 — St. Anthony's freshman Brian Biesty won both freshman hurdle races at the CHSAA Outdoor Freshmen & Sophomore Intersectional Championship, taking the 110-meter hurdles in 18.27 and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.83, both personal bests. Archbishop Molloy sophomore Ikechuku Anaege won the sophomore long jump at 21-05.00 and the high jump at 5-08.00.
Biesty beat teammate Jack Clayton (18.84) in the 110 hurdles and won the 400 hurdles by 2.25 seconds over Fordham Prep's John Annicelli (1:07.08). St. Anthony's also won the freshman 400, where Jaden Lyons ran a personal best of 52.82 to win by 2.82 seconds over Cardinal Spellman's Alejandro Garcia (55.64).
In the distance races, Fordham Prep's Myles Hogan won the freshman 3,200 in 10:03.62 by 13.92 seconds, the fastest freshman time in the event this season, and Xavier's Owen Hassler won the sophomore 1,600 in 4:30.66 ahead of Chaminade's Frank Naudus (4:33.41). Regis sophomore Luke Ellwood won the 3,200 in 10:08.43.
St. Anthony's sophomore Robert Doherty won the 800 in a personal-best 1:57.99, 1.46 seconds ahead of St. John the Baptist's Fernando Sanchez (1:59.45). St. John's Prep sophomore Gary Munro won the 200 in 23.12, and Cardinal Hayes sophomore Jabari Underwood won the 400 in 51.41.
In the field, Cardinal Hayes sophomore Kevin Dominguez won the javelin at 134-05, just ahead of Monsignor McClancy's Piotr Draus (134-02), and St. Francis sophomore Peter Athanailos won the discus at 123-06, a personal best. Iona Prep freshman Jose Ruiz won the shot put at 42-11.00.
