LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — May 31, 2024 — Northport's Vito LaRosa won the boys 100-meter dash at the Section 8 State Qualifier in 10.77, and Port Jefferson's Alexa Jacobs won the girls 100 in a personal-best 11.98, the fastest time on record for the meet. Jacobs also won the girls 200 in 25.12.
Uniondale's Chica Akazi won the Division 1 girls 100-meter hurdles in a personal-best 14.36, the fastest time on record for the race and the fastest on Long Island this season. She won by 1.23 seconds over Syosset's Nicole Wang and had won at this meet three times before. West Islip's Rocco Carpinello won the boys triple jump with a personal-best 47-00.25, the best mark on record for the meet and the best on Long Island this season. Bryson Bodner won the Division boys shot put at 57-03.25, also a personal best and the best mark on record for the meet.
Commack's Daniel Pagan won the pentathlon 1500 in 4:29.15, the fastest on record, 0.66 seconds ahead of Connetquot's Fernando Padilla. Isabella Spagnoli won the Division 2000-meter steeplechase in 6:57.99, bettering her own 7:10.72 from 2022, with North Shore's Joanna Kenney second in a personal-best 7:01.07. In the other steeplechase sections, Comsewogue's Lexie Cole ran the fastest time, 6:50.72.
North Babylon's Jordan Peck won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.81 and the 400-meter hurdles in 55.91. East Islip's Joseph Norrby won the 400 in 49.28, 0.08 seconds ahead of Longwood's Desmond Calderon, and Elwood / John Glenn's Davin Li won the 200 in a personal-best 21.93. Northport's Brandon Cruz ran the fastest 1600 time, a personal-best 4:18.69, and Mt. Sinai's Jess Joe Augustine ran the fastest steeplechase time in 9:33.51.
On the girls side, West Babylon's Niomi Allison won the 100-meter hurdles in a personal-best 14.80, Commack's Sofia Toepfer won the 400 in 57.50, and East Islip's Danielle Simonetti won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.63, the fastest on Long Island this season. William Floyd's Zariel Macchia ran the fastest 1500 time, a personal-best 4:28.85. Sachem East's Gianna Mauri won the race walk in 6:36.00, Miller Place's Jillian Scully won the shot put at 45-08.00, and Sayville's Carly Strining won the pentathlon 800 in 2:22.46.
In the Division races, Elmont Memorial's Ashley Fulton won the girls 100 in 12.25 and the 200 in 25.09. Elmont Memorial's Isaiah Davis won the boys 100 in 11.06, Roosevelt's Leroy Barrett won the 200 in a personal-best 22.61, Division Avenue's Thomas Bonsignore won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.00, and Sanford H. Calhoun's Logan Schaeffler won the steeplechase in 9:52.80. Oyster Bay's Christopher Tardugno ran the fastest 1600 time at 4:20.94 and East Meadow's Zaria Hall ran the fastest 1500 time at 4:47.49.
Other winners included Islip's Josiah Patterson in the discus (156-01.00), Long Beach's Mikella Gray and Longwood's Halli Silberman in the pole vault (10-06.00), Oceanside's Riley Moylan and Syosset's Matthew Robotham in the long jump, Deer Park's Kayla Beaumont in the triple jump, and Smithtown East's Braden McCormick, Riverhead's Kayleanne Campbell and East Meadow's Aaron Matos in the high jump.
