HUNTINGTON, N.Y. — February 5, 2025 — Garden City's Ryan McAlea won the boys 3200-meter run in a personal-best 9:43.05 at the Section 8 County Championship Meet Class B, 17.68 seconds ahead of Manhasset's Blake Sealy (10:00.73). Garden City's Catalina Suau won the girls 3000 in a personal-best 10:41.33, 4.53 seconds ahead of South Side's Fayola Allison.
Most running events were contested in sections. Manhasset's Nicolas Katsoulis ran the fastest boys 1600 in a personal-best 4:31.17, and teammate John Hogan ran the fastest 1000 in 2:36.69. Elmont Memorial's Makhai Noel ran the fastest boys 55 in a personal-best 6.62, George H. Hewlett's Matthew DeCicco ran the fastest 55-meter hurdles in 7.87, Academy Charter's Nigel Basnight ran the fastest 300 in a personal-best 37.82, and Sewanhaka's Camrin Crooks ran the fastest 600 in a personal-best 1:29.53.
On the girls side, Roosevelt's Esmia Thomas ran the fastest 55 in 7.25, Bethpage's Jadyn Hsu ran the fastest 55-meter hurdles in 8.76, and Garden City's Grace Berkery ran the fastest 300 in 45.49. George H. Hewlett's Valeria Paez ran the fastest 1000 in a personal-best 3:08.18, Manhasset's Kathryn Farrer ran the fastest 1500 in a personal-best 5:12.74, and Wellington C. Mepham's Clairevy Maingrette ran the fastest 600 in 1:50.93. Garden City's Roisin Pfaff won the 1500-meter race walk in a personal-best 8:54.15 by 10 seconds.
In the field, Sanford H. Calhoun's Dana Wauchope won the girls weight throw at 43-4.5, and H. Frank Carey's GianCarlos Suarez Oubina won the boys weight throw with a personal best of 51-11. Roosevelt's Bryan Querro Sanchez won the boys shot put with a personal best of 49-2.75, and Roslyn's Diana Santos won the girls shot put at 31-8.5.
Garden City's Connor McHugh won the boys pole vault at 12-06.00, and George H. Hewlett's Maree Drayling won the girls pole vault at 08-06.00. DeCicco cleared 05-08.00 in a jump-off in the boys high jump, and Roosevelt's Nyla Branche won the girls high jump at 05-00.00. Roslyn's Zachary Davidson won the boys long jump with a personal best of 20-7.25, JFK Bellmore's Morgan Beers won the girls long jump at 16-2.25, and Sanford H. Calhoun's Milan Alexander won the triple jump with a personal best of 33-9.75.
