Kevin McDermott wins 1600 and 3200, Anthony Toro takes three events

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — February 6, 2005 — Chaminade senior Kevin McDermott won the 3200-meter run in 9:37.36 and the 1600 in 4:33.01 at the NSCHSAA League Championships. Sophomore Ryan McDermott was second in both races for Chaminade, 25.48 seconds back in the 3200 (10:02.84) and 3.07 seconds back in the 1600 (4:36.08). St. Anthony's John Keenan was third in the 3200 in 10:10.47, and St. Anthony's Robert Fleming was third in the 1600 in a personal-best 4:36.16.

St. Anthony's senior Anthony Toro won three events. He took the 55-meter hurdles in 8.06 by 0.73 seconds over Chaminade's Timothy Jarzynka, won the high jump with a personal best of 6-02.00, and won the long jump at 20-06.50.

Holy Trinity senior Rondell Copper won the 300 in 37.22, 1.22 seconds ahead of Chaminade's Daniel Falanga, after running the fastest time in the trials in 37.91. Holy Trinity senior Kimathi Cooper won the 600 in 1:27.32, 0.62 seconds ahead of Chaminade's John Kiley. St. John the Baptist junior Mike Fitzgerald won the 55-meter dash in 6.79, 0.15 seconds ahead of teammate Antonio Ortiz, and Kellenberg senior Brian Schmidt won the 1000 in 2:37.07 by 4.3 seconds over Chaminade's Conor McNamara.

Falanga won the triple jump at 40-00.75, ahead of Chaminade teammate Richard Semenick. St. Anthony's sophomore Walter Henning won the shot put at 50-04.00, and St. Anthony's took the top three places in the pole vault, led by senior Chris Roberts at 12-00.00, and in the high jump.

The meet was held indoors.
