Barry Franklin wins 1600 and 3200, Miles Lewis takes 55 and long jump

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — January 31, 2008 — Longwood senior Barry Franklin won the 3200-meter run in a personal-best 9:37.66 and the 1600 in a personal-best 4:34.78 at the Boys Large School Championship. Franklin beat Smithtown East's Brendan Connell (9:40.28) by 2.62 seconds in the 3200 and edged Lindenhurst's Sean Daly (4:35.31) by 0.53 seconds in the 1600, with Northport's Colin Anderson third in 4:35.41.

Middle Country junior Miles Lewis won the 55-meter dash final in a personal-best 6.74, 0.06 seconds ahead of Walt Whitman's Mychael Fabio (6.80), and won the long jump with a personal best of 21-00.00. Fabio was also second in the 300, which Brentwood senior Robert Barnes won in a personal-best 37.08.

West Islip junior David Kastner won the 55-meter hurdles final in 8.02, 0.07 seconds ahead of Half Hollow Hills East's Steven Brown. Sachem North senior David Steinberg won the 600 in a personal-best 1:26.79, 0.06 seconds ahead of Lindenhurst's Samar Hall, and West Islip senior Joe Clark won the 1000 in a personal-best 2:41.18, 0.59 seconds ahead of Northport's Michael Lopizzo.

In the field, Brentwood senior Jordy Paulemon won the shot put at 52-06.50, ahead of Longwood's Vinny Guida (48-02.00). Bay Shore senior Jarrett Scott won the triple jump at 43-00.75, with teammate John Dettori second, and Sachem East junior Rich Roethel won the high jump with a personal best of 6-02.00.

The meet was held indoors.
