Northport eighth-grader Brigid Brennan wins 3000 and 1500

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — February 1, 2010 — Northport eighth-grader Brigid Brennan won the 3000 and the 1500 at the Section XI Large School Championships, running personal bests of 10:14.56 and 4:51.93. Commack senior Colby Lubman won the 55-meter dash final in a personal-best 7.32, the fastest on Long Island this season, and Brentwood senior Stefanny Laureano won the 300 final in a personal-best 41.77.

Brennan's 10:14.56 was the second-fastest time on record on Long Island for the 3000 and the second-fastest this season, and she beat West Islip junior Ali Foote by 2.51 seconds. In the 1500 she beat Riverhead senior Katie Skinner by 4.05 seconds.

Lubman ran the fastest semifinal time, 7.41, and won the final by 0.09 seconds over Longwood junior Olivia Hallstein, with Northport sophomore Sara Ronde third in 7.46. Laureano, who also had the fastest semifinal time in 42.11, won the 300 final by 1.24 seconds over Connetquot senior Jenna Barreto, and her 41.77 was the third-best mark on record on Long Island.

Bay Shore senior Darleen Eiermann won the 55 hurdles final in a personal-best 9.04, 0.08 ahead of Commack junior Sarah Bell, who had run the fastest semifinal time in 8.85. Commack junior Allison Stapleton won the 1000 in a personal-best 3:02.37 by 4.56 seconds, and Brentwood senior Donna Jeanty won the 600 in a personal-best 1:36.83, the second-best mark on record on Long Island and the fastest this season. Bay Shore senior Destiny Lalane won the 1500-meter race walk in 7:09.77, 0.64 ahead of Northport sophomore Suzy Farber.

Sachem East senior Lisa Luchsinger won the long jump at a personal-best 16-09.75, just ahead of Longwood senior Sarah Maye (16-09.50) and North Babylon senior Natalie Gadsden (16-09.25). North Babylon senior Vanessa Stewart won the shot put at 46-03.75, ahead of Longwood senior Jaelisa Rehal (37-05.25).
