Vanessa Stewart, Melodee Riley and Suzy Farber set best marks on record

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — May 24, 2010 — North Babylon senior Vanessa Stewart won the Division Two shot put at the Girls Division Championship Meet at 14.47m, the best mark on record for the meet, and also won the discus at 38.25m. Riverhead sophomore Melodee Riley won the Division Two triple jump at a personal-best 11.96m, also the best on record, and Northport sophomore Suzy Farber won the Division One race walk in a personal-best 6:55.94, the fastest on record and the fastest on Long Island this season.

Stewart had won at this meet twice before, and she bettered her own 14.19m from 2009. Farber won the race walk by 11.69 seconds over Connetquot senior Amy Cheung. Sachem East senior Lisa Luchsinger ran the fastest time in the Division One 100, a personal-best 12.23, faster than any on record for the meet.

Ward Melville junior Mary Kate Anselmini won the Division One 3000 in 10:10.92, the fastest on Long Island this season, 7.74 seconds ahead of Commack junior Allison Stapleton. Stapleton won the steeplechase in 7:10.10 by 21.06 seconds. Sachem East sophomore Rachel Paul won the 1500 in 4:39.75, 3.98 seconds ahead of Anselmini, and ran the fastest 800 time, 2:14.97. Commack senior Colby Lubman ran the fastest 400 and 200 times, 58.04 and 25.15, and Northport sophomore Sara Ronde had the longest long jump at a personal-best 5.71m.

In Division Two, Smithtown East eighth-grader Deirdre Connor won the 1500 in a personal-best 4:50.98, 0.26 seconds ahead of Riverhead senior Katie Skinner, and ran the fastest 800 time, 2:22.35. Skinner won the 3000 in 10:37.54. Copiague sophomore Janel Francis ran the fastest 100 and 200 times, both personal bests, at 12.40 and 26.08. East Islip senior Brianna Walsh won the high jump at a personal-best 1.57m, Hauppauge junior Donna Macaluso won the race walk and Hauppauge senior Cristina Kettell won the steeplechase.

Mount Sinai junior Janie Turek won the Division Three steeplechase in 7:26.76 and the 1500 in 4:57.13, ran the fastest 800 time in a personal-best 2:17.45, and finished 0.2 seconds behind teammate Brittany Callahan in the 3000, which Callahan won in a personal-best 10:50.31. Mount Sinai senior Janet Mellor ran the fastest times in the 100-meter hurdles (a personal-best 15.52), the 100 (12.44) and the 200 (25.50).

Bayport-Blue Point sophomore Jordan Collins won the Division Three discus at a personal-best 31.59m and the shot put at 10.24m. Babylon junior Mackenzie Vickers won the long jump at a personal-best 5.28m, Shoreham-Wading River sophomore Alyssa Pisani won the pole vault, Shoreham-Wading River junior Danielle Opatovsky won the race walk and Miller Place junior Katie DuBois won the triple jump.
