Mark Jackson and Kashaun Boynton win by 0.01 seconds

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — February 4, 2011 — Three races at the Section XI Large School Championships were decided by less than a tenth of a second. Longwood junior Mark Jackson won the 55 Meter Dash in a personal-best 6.66, 0.01 seconds ahead of Bay Shore senior Dayne Savory, and Riverhead junior Kashaun Boynton won the 55 hurdles in a personal-best 7.88, 0.01 seconds ahead of Longwood senior Joe Payton. Connetquot senior Tyler Murtha won the 1600 in 4:31.03, 0.04 seconds ahead of North Babylon sophomore Kris Moran.

Jackson also finished second in the high jump at a personal-best 6-03.00, behind Sachem East senior Greg Markfelder, who cleared a personal-best 6-04.00, the best mark on Long Island this season.

Half Hollow Hills East senior Greg Perrier won the 1000 in a personal-best 2:36.78, the second-fastest on Long Island this season, by 4.77 seconds over Patchogue-Medford senior Brian Gordon. Sachem East senior Alex Saavedra won the 3200 in 9:37.52, 7.53 seconds ahead of Walt Whitman sophomore Zachary Cammer, and Northport senior Neil Yodice won the 300 in 36.93, 0.13 seconds ahead of Brentwood senior Todd Colas. Longwood senior Joe Fuller won the 600 in a personal-best 1:26.52.

In the field, Riverhead senior Treval Hatcher won the triple jump with a personal-best 46-06.00, ahead of Central Islip senior Ryan Satchell at 46-02.00, and Smithtown West senior Fred Walter won the shot put with a personal-best 50-05.75. Brentwood senior Dorrell Lumsden won the long jump with a personal-best 21-06.00, ahead of Longwood senior Shane Cruz at 20-11.00.

The meet was held indoors.
