Olivia Hallstein wins 55 and 300 for Longwood

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — February 12, 2011 — Longwood senior Olivia Hallstein won both girls sprints at the Section XI Indoor Track State Qualifier, taking the 55-meter dash in 7.33 and the 300 in 41.42, both personal bests. North Babylon sophomore Kris Moran won the boys 3200 in a personal-best 9:34.46, and Ward Melville senior Mary Kate Anselmini won the girls 3000 in 10:17.45, the fastest time on Long Island this season.

Hallstein's 41.42 was the second-best mark on record on Long Island for the 300, and she won by 1.54 seconds over Lindenhurst sophomore Alyssa Barthelmes. In the 55 she edged Copiague junior Janel Francis (7.35) by 0.02 seconds; both of Hallstein's times were the fastest on Long Island this season.

Bay Shore senior Dayne Savory won the boys 55 in a personal-best 6.54, the fastest on Long Island this season, by 0.09 over Longwood junior Mark Jackson. Longwood senior Joe Fuller won the 600 in 1:23.71, also the fastest on Long Island this season. Brentwood senior Ibrahim Abubaka won the 300 in 36.80, and Riverhead junior Kashaun Boynton took the 55 hurdles in 7.85, 0.02 ahead of Huntington sophomore Tyriek Johnson.

Moran beat Sachem East senior Alex Saavedra by 6.83 seconds. Half Hollow Hills East senior Greg Perrier won the 1000 in a personal-best 2:35.65, the fastest on Long Island this season, and Connetquot senior Tyler Murtha won the 1600 in 4:29.25. Anselmini led a Ward Melville one-two in the 3000, with Caroline O'Hea second.

Sachem East junior Rachel Paul won the girls 1000 in a personal-best 3:02.16, and Harborfields junior Kelsey Margey won the 1500 in a personal-best 4:42.31, the second-best mark on record on Long Island for the event. Shoreham-Wading River junior Shannon McDonnell won the 600 in 1:37.65, and her teammate Danielle Opatovsky won the 1500-meter race walk in 7:11.68. Bay Shore junior Jessica Gelibert won the 55 hurdles in 8.57, 0.2 seconds ahead of Commack senior Sarah Bell.

In the field events, Kings Park senior Brandon Reynolds won the boys shot put with a personal-best 53-03.50, Sachem East senior Greg Markfelder won the high jump at 6-04.00, Miller Place junior Adam Devito won the long jump at 21-11.00, Central Islip senior Ryan Satchell won the triple jump at 45-10.25 and Shoreham-Wading River senior Ben Canellys won the pole vault at 13-00.00.

Connetquot junior Brianna Cristiano won the girls pole vault at a personal-best 10-00.00, the best mark on record on Long Island, and John Glenn junior Kaitlin Whitehorn won the high jump with a personal-best 5-05.00. Northport junior Sara Ronde won the long jump at 18-01.00, Sayville senior Kelly Santangelo won the triple jump at a personal-best 37-01.25 and Longwood senior Imani White won the shot put at 38-11.00.
