Mike Branigan leads Northport sweep of 3200

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — January 10, 2013 — Northport sophomore Mike Branigan won the 3200-meter run in a personal-best 9:44.61 at the Boys Crossover Meet Large Schools, the fastest time on Long Island this season, leading a Northport sweep of the top three places. Alex Kramer was second in 9:45.27, 0.66 seconds back, and Justin Leopold was third in 9:54.08, all three in personal bests.

Smithtown West junior Benjamin Bonhurst won the shot put with a personal best of 54-08.00, the best mark on Long Island this season, ahead of Longwood's Dennis Russel (50-11.50). Middle Country senior Josh Gali won the 300-meter dash in a personal-best 36.82 by 1.6 seconds.

Several races came down to hundredths. William Floyd senior Isaiah Lawson won the 55-meter dash in 6.85, 0.01 seconds ahead of teammate Andrew Taitt, and Central Islip sophomore Juan Rossell won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.24, 0.01 seconds ahead of Patchogue-Medford's Keith Orlando. Lindenhurst senior Anthony Seara won the 600 in 1:28.23, 0.14 seconds ahead of East Islip's Andrew Sharkey, with Lawson third.

Brentwood junior Brandon Robinson won the 1000 in 2:48.96, and East Islip senior Shane Martensen won the 1600 in 4:43.78, 2.51 seconds ahead of West Islip's Scott Nelson.

In the field, Longwood junior Dayshawn Taylor won the long jump with a personal best of 21-07.00, Longwood's Josh Williams won the triple jump at 41-02.25, and Sachem North senior Robert Yannotta won the high jump at 6-00.00.

The meet was held indoors.
