BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — January 31, 2014 — Miller Place senior Tiana Guevara won the girls 1500 meters at the Section XI Small School Championships for the second straight year in 4:50.09, the fastest time on record for the race and the fastest on Long Island this season, and also won the 3000 meters in 10:44.69. Hauppauge junior Jasmine Davis defended her 300 meter title in 42.62, also the fastest time on record for the race.
Guevara improved on the 4:50.31 she ran to win last year and finished 5.6 seconds ahead of Shoreham-Wading River eighth-grader Katherine Lee (4:55.69). In the 3000, she beat Miller Place senior Talia Guevara, the defending champion, by 1.84 seconds.
Davis improved on her winning 43.02 from 2013 and finished 0.51 ahead of Westhampton Beach junior Lauren Lorefice. John Glenn senior Sarah Hardie also repeated, winning the 1000 meters in 3:03.47, 0.59 ahead of Harborfields junior Jamie Grossman.
Southampton junior Hannah Connolly-Sporing won the 600 meters in a personal-best 1:41.27, the fastest time on record for the race, 0.95 ahead of Bayport-Blue Point senior Courtney Dooley. Bayport-Blue Point sophomore Kathleen Cibuls won the 55 meters in 7.64, 0.04 ahead of Babylon senior Ashley Lucas, and the long jump at 16-09.50, ahead of Comsewogue senior Dara Smith (16-07.00). Smith won the 55 meter hurdles in 9.02, 0.2 ahead of Cibuls.
Comsewogue won two field events: sophomore Tori Reid won the triple jump at a personal-best 35-00.50, the best mark on record for the meet, and senior Sabrena Reid won the high jump at 5-00.00. Huntington junior Tara Brynes won the shot put at 33-11.50, also the best mark on record, ahead of Huntington junior Ellyn Brynes (30-01.50).
Westhampton Beach senior Sabrina Mason won the 1500 meter race walk in a personal-best 7:09.50, 3.12 seconds ahead of John Glenn senior Alexa Kluepfel. The meet was held indoors at Suffolk West Community College at Brentwood.
