BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — February 1, 2018 — Shoreham-Wading River senior Katherine Lee won the 1000 meters at the Section XI Small School Championships in a personal-best 2:52.65, the fastest time on record for the meet and the fastest 1000 on record on Long Island. Mount Sinai swept the top three places in the 1500, led by sophomore Sarah Connelly in a personal-best 4:56.35.
Lee beat Mount Sinai freshman Kaitlyn Chandrika (2:59.19) by 6.54 seconds and improved on the 2:57.18 John Glenn's Sarah Hardie ran in 2013. Connelly beat teammates Isabella DiPalermo (4:57.56) and Noreen Guilfoyle (4:59.31) in the 1500.
Guilfoyle won the 3000 in a personal-best 10:39.15, 0.08 seconds ahead of Connelly. Hauppauge senior Jada Obie won the 55 meters in a personal-best 7.34, the fastest time on record for the meet, 0.02 ahead of Amityville junior Indya Hunter. Westhampton Beach senior Kayla Berman won the 600 in 1:38.83, also the fastest on record for the meet and the second-fastest on Long Island this season, ahead of Mount Sinai junior Kayleigh Robinson.
Robinson won the 55-meter hurdles in a personal-best 8.93, 0.04 ahead of Miller Place senior Jillian Patterson. Half Hollow Hills West sophomore Michele Daye won the 300 in a personal-best 41.83, the second-fastest time on Long Island this season, and Westhampton Beach junior Natalie Ehlers won the 1500-meter race walk in a personal-best 7:36.00.
Half Hollow Hills West senior Mia Abulencia won the long jump at 17-11.00 and the triple jump with a personal-best 37-11.00. Bayport-Blue Point senior Ashley Walsh won the shot put at 40-10.00, matching the best mark on record for the meet, set by Half Hollow Hills West's Oyinkansola Adewale in 2014. John Glenn senior Alice Chiodo won the high jump at 5-04.00. The meet was held indoors.
