BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — February 12, 2018 — Shoreham-Wading River senior Katherine Lee won the girls 1000 meters in 2:52.58 at the Section XI Indoor State Qualifier Meet, the fastest time on record for the meet and the best mark on record on Long Island. Northport senior Isaiah Claiborne won the boys 1000 in 2:32.45, and Northport senior Elijah Claiborne won the 1600 in 4:20.78, both personal bests and the fastest times on Long Island this season.
Lee beat Mount Sinai freshman Kaitlyn Chandrika (2:59.41) by 6.83 seconds. Elijah Claiborne edged Ward Melville senior Eric Zulkofske (4:20.95) by 0.17 seconds, with Walt Whitman senior Aiden Smyth third in 4:21.34. Northport also won the 3200, where senior Dan O'Connor ran a personal best of 9:37.28 to beat teammate Sean Ryan (9:38.58) by 1.3 seconds.
Two other girls events produced the best marks on record for the meet. Sachem East senior Margaret Atwood won the 1500-meter race walk in 6:49.66, 9.28 seconds ahead of Half Hollow Hills East junior Jessica Grover, and Longwood junior Violet Drinkwater won the pole vault at 10-06.00, ahead of teammate Sydney Geddes. Bayport-Blue Point senior Ashley Walsh repeated in the shot put at 41-02.50, improving the best mark on record for the meet, the 40-11.00 she threw a year ago.
Copiague senior Akajia Atkins won the 55 meters in 7.21 and the long jump at 19-02.00, both personal bests. Ward Melville senior Kiera Hughes won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.50, Bay Shore sophomore Roshni Singh won the 3000 in 10:21.81, Longwood senior Arielle Desir won the 300 in 41.42, and Brentwood sophomore Donisha Jeanty won the 600 in 1:37.88 by 0.03 seconds. Sachem North sophomore Molly Ramirez won the 1500 in 4:50.42, Longwood senior Kelsey Shapiro won the high jump at 5-05.00 and Half Hollow Hills West senior Mia Abulencia won the triple jump at 37-08.25.
On the boys side, Longwood junior Jaheim Dotson won the 55-meter hurdles in 7.56 by 0.02 seconds over Mount Sinai junior Kenneth Wei, then was second in the 300, where Half Hollow Hills West senior Nicholas Duchatel won in 35.85 by 0.01 seconds. Patchogue-Medford senior Joseef Egbetokum- won the 55 in 6.57, and Hauppauge senior Nick Crociata won the 600 in 1:22.39.
Babylon senior Vladislav Cullina won the high jump at 6-09.00, Half Hollow Hills West junior Deyvon Wright won the long jump at 21-09.25, Southampton senior Sebestian Perreir won the triple jump at 46-10.00, Eastport-South Manor senior Julian McIntosh won the shot put at 49-02.00 and Westhampton Beach senior Laurence Barr-Forget won the pole vault at 14-00.00.
