Jaheim Dotson wins three, sets two marks on record

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — February 1, 2019 — Longwood senior Jaheim Dotson won three events at the Section XI Boys Large School Championships, taking the 55-meter hurdles in 7.52 and the 300 meters in 34.93, both personal bests and the fastest times on record for the meet, and the long jump with a personal-best 22-05.00.

Dotson won the hurdles for the second straight year. His time, the fastest on Long Island this season, beat the 7.66 he ran in 2018, and he finished 0.36 seconds ahead of Bellport senior Kyler Pizzo. In the 300 he edged Huntington senior Johnathan Smith (34.99) by 0.06 seconds, also the fastest time on Long Island this season. His long jump was the second-best mark on Long Island this season.

North Babylon junior Christian Fils-Aime won the 55 meters in a personal-best 6.52, the fastest time on Long Island this season, 0.02 seconds ahead of Brentwood senior Julio Rodriguez. Half Hollow Hills East senior RJ Pleasants won the 1000 in a personal-best 2:35.58, the second-fastest time on Long Island this season, 1.9 seconds ahead of Longwood sophomore Nicholas Scheiner.

Huntington swept the top three places in the 600, led by sophomore Isaiah James in a personal-best 1:25.14, ahead of CJ Kiviat and Justin Stevens. Northport senior Sean Ryan won the 3200 in 9:53.41, 0.64 seconds ahead of teammate Aidar Matthews, and Smithtown West junior Micheal Danzi won the 1600 in 4:32.86, 0.16 ahead of Commack senior Daniel Czop.

Commack senior Steven Vasile won the shot put for the second straight year, throwing 49-09.50, the third-best mark on Long Island this season. Sachem East senior Daniel Leonaed won the high jump with a personal-best 6-03.00, and Bay Shore senior Marcrene Jeannot won the triple jump at 45-02.25. The meet was held indoors.
