BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — February 1, 2013 — Northport junior Brigid Brennan won the 3000 meters at the Section XI Large School Championships in 10:14.33, the fastest time on Long Island this season and the fastest on record for the race, improving on the 10:31.88 she ran to win it in 2011. She also won the 1500 in 4:52.25, 7.19 seconds ahead of North Babylon junior Jessica Scheriff.
Brennan beat Smithtown West junior Victoria Ingram (10:23.56) by 9.23 seconds, with East Islip senior Niamh Ashe third. Scheriff won the 1000 in a personal-best 3:03.58, the fastest time on record for the race, 1.82 seconds ahead of West Islip senior Jessica Ball, and Northport freshman Jackie Thorne was third.
Sachem North junior Melissa Michels won the 55-meter dash in a personal-best 7.35, the fastest time on Long Island this season and on record for the race, 0.03 seconds ahead of Commack senior Mallary Dugan. Half Hollow Hills East freshman Mary Chimezie won the 300 in a personal-best 41.50, also the fastest on record for the meet, 0.44 seconds ahead of Lindenhurst senior Alyssa Barthelmes.
Bay Shore junior Anisa Toppin won both horizontal jumps with personal bests and the best marks on record for the meet. She won the long jump at 18-03.75 and the triple jump at 38-09.75, the best triple jump on Long Island this season, as Bay Shore took the top three places with senior Kelsey Palomino second and junior Imani McGhee third.
Walt Whitman senior Jackie Crunden won the high jump at 5-05.00, the best mark on Long Island this season and on record for the meet, and was second in the 55 hurdles. Bay Shore freshman Aviana Goode won the hurdles in a personal-best 8.76, 0.2 seconds ahead of Crunden, and was second in the high jump at 5-02.00.
Sachem East senior Holly Lindoe won the 1500-meter race walk in 6:55.07, the fastest time on record for the race, 4.49 seconds ahead of Connetquot sophomore Monika Farmer. Middle Country junior Emily Scully won the 600 in a personal-best 1:42.71, and Sachem East senior Brittany Sepe won the shot put at 37-06.25, ahead of Half Hollow Hills West senior Tiara Davis. The meet was held indoors.
