Christopher Borzo and Chibugo Obichere win doubles with best marks on record

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. — February 13, 2018 — Uniondale senior Christopher Borzo won the 55-meter dash in 6.48 and the 300 in 35.50 at the Section VIII State Qualifier Meet, both the fastest times on record for the meet. Valley Stream South junior Chibugo Obichere matched him with a double of her own, repeating in the 55 hurdles in 8.22 and winning the 55 in 7.30, also both bests on record.

Borzo's 55 beat the 6.53 Long Beach's Josh Linster ran in 2014, and his 300 beat the 35.77 Malverne's Christopher Meacha ran in 2016; he won the 300 by 1.26 seconds over Valley Stream Central junior Jonathan Grant. Obichere improved on her own 8.33 from last year in the hurdles and edged Elmont senior Imani Gray (7.33) by 0.03 seconds in the 55. Oceanside senior Anthony Romeo won the boys 55 hurdles in 7.54, also a best on record and the fastest on Long Island this season, 0.07 seconds ahead of Uniondale junior Asiel King.

Manhasset freshman Angeline Caamano repeated in the girls 1500 in a personal-best 4:43.32, a best on record, by 5.78 seconds over North Shore freshman Sophie Rosencrans. Port Washington senior Lucy Hurt won the 1000 in a personal-best 3:00.46, and Hewlett junior Sophie Riegel won the 1500-meter race walk in a personal-best 7:36.27, 0.15 seconds ahead of East Meadow senior Sarah Son, and both times were bests on record.

Field records also fell. Uniondale sophomore Jadan Hanson won the boys triple jump with a personal-best 46-09.75, Valley Stream South junior Lindsey Smith won the girls long jump with a personal-best 18-07.25 and Hewlett sophomore Kayley Ragazzini won the girls weight throw at 38-11.75, each the best mark on record for the meet.

Elmont senior Brianna Harris repeated in the girls 300 in 41.71, and Valley Stream North junior Juel Charles repeated in the shot put at 40-07.00. Oceanside junior Andria Scaglione won the 3000 in 10:25.37, South Side junior Olivia Rodriguez won the high jump with a personal-best 5-03.00, Farmingdale senior Amanda Belgrave won the triple jump with a personal-best 37-00.50 and MacArthur senior Diana Hadjiyane won the pole vault at 9-00.00.

On the boys side, Manhasset senior Aidan Caggiano won the 3200 in a personal-best 9:54.49, Seaford sophomore Jason Linzer won the 1600 in a personal-best 4:30.76 and Bethpage senior Clayton Santiago won the 1000 in a personal-best 2:39.10. Massapequa senior Joe Ryan won the weight throw at 61-03.00, the best on Long Island this season, as Massapequa took the top three spots. Massapequa senior Kevin Cetin won the shot put at 49-07.00 and Massapequa junior Bryan Moody won the pole vault at 12-06.00. Port Washington senior Alexander Zsikla won the long jump with a personal-best 21-07.50 and Roosevelt senior Nathaniel Francis won the high jump at 6-01.00.
