Jason Linzer repeats in 3200 as seven best marks on record fall

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. — February 11, 2020 — Farmingdale junior Andre Leslie won the 55-meter dash at the Section VIII State Qualifier Meet in 6.45, the fastest time on record for the meet and the fastest on Long Island this season, and Seaford senior Jason Linzer won the 3200 for the second straight year in a personal-best 9:30.99, improving his own best on record of 9:35.27. Seven winners set the best marks on record for their events.

Leslie beat Freeport junior Jaden Mason (6.62) by 0.17 seconds. Linzer held off Farmingdale junior Anthony Diaz (9:33.23) by 2.24 seconds, with MacArthur senior Jason Maynard third in 9:35.57; all three ran personal bests. MacArthur senior Timmy Weber won the 1600 in a personal-best 4:23.72, the fastest on Long Island this season, by 8.76 seconds over Valley Stream North senior Matt Marrone, bettering the 4:25.24 East Meadow's Michael Grady ran in 2014.

North Shore senior Nicole Schneider won the girls 1000 in a personal-best 2:55.64, the fastest on Long Island this season, beating defending champion Angeline Caamano of Manhasset (2:59.66) by 4.02 seconds. Massapequa senior Ashleigh Wakely repeated in the 1500-meter race walk in 7:27.42, winning by 26.28 seconds. Freeport junior Christian Quinn won the long jump at 23-02.25 and East Meadow senior Brandon Love won the pole vault at 14-06.00, ahead of defending champion Nicholas Bianco of Massapequa.

Hewlett senior Kayley Ragazzini won the girls weight throw for the third straight year at 48-04.00 and also won the shot put at 38-03.25. South Side senior Carly Woelfel repeated in the girls 3000 with a personal-best 10:29.54, 16.59 seconds clear of JFK Bellmore junior Maya Spottiswood. Syosset junior Evan Rosen won the boys weight throw with a personal-best 61-08.75, the best on Long Island this season, and the shot put at 48-05.75.

Garden City senior Grant Krawiec won the boys 1000 in 2:41.27, 0.02 seconds ahead of Syosset senior Justin DePinto, with Massapequa senior Luke Jarski third in 2:41.33. East Meadow junior Chris Martinez won the 600 in a personal-best 1:24.06. Westbury senior Isaiah Allen won the triple jump with a personal-best 46-08.50 and Seaford senior Al Munro won the high jump at 6-02.00.

Jericho sophomore Mackenzie Setton won the girls 1500 in 4:57.12, Elmont eighth-grader Ashley Fulton won the 55 in 7.39, Freeport senior Efe Omokeni won the long jump with a personal-best 18-04.00, Farmingdale junior Leann Nicholas won the triple jump at 39-00.50, Plainedge senior Olivia Finnegan won the high jump at 5-02.00 and Island Trees sophomore Nicolette LoMonte won the pole vault at 9-06.00.

The hurdles and 300s were run in sections. Farmingdale senior Amir Cambridge ran the fastest boys 55 hurdles time at 7.89, Oceanside senior Jonathan Gamarra ran the fastest 300 at 35.50, Valley Stream Central senior Olivia Nelson ran the fastest girls hurdles time in a personal-best 8.34 and Freeport senior Alexandria Yarbrough ran the fastest girls 300 at 40.93.
